Hygge for HomeBodies: Creating a Winter Sanctuary

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, we know winter is on its way! It’s time to prepare our Winter Sanctuary!
Every year, I see the same online debate — those who can’t wait to decorate for Christmas vs. those who insist we should stay fully present in fall.
Here’s my take: there’s no rule that says we can’t do both.
Preparing for the holidays or the winter season a few weeks earlier than others doesn’t mean we’re rushing this one away. In fact, preparing ahead can actually help us be more present — both in the season we’re in and the one to come.
Procrastinating or avoiding preparation in one season can easily lead to disappointment or exhaustion in the next.
There’s a delicate balance between presence and preparation — I call this finding your seasonal home rhythm. We can all have our own rhythm! It’s never about how much we do or when we do it, but about creating an atmosphere that welcomes us in — with a rhythm that brings peace and beauty into our homes and lives.

Hygge for HomeBodies
I know not everyone looks forward to winter. Many dread the dark evenings, cold mornings, and even the overwhelm that comes with the holidays — or the letdown once the festivities are over.
✨Finding our rhythm for this season is why we’re beginning a new Winter Series in HomeBody Gathering Place now — before the holiday rush — so we can enter the season inspired, and ready to truly enjoy it.✨
You’re invited to join us for our new series, Hygge for HomeBodies. You’ll find it in the quiet cozy corner of The Inspired Room we call HomeBody Gathering Place.
This winter we’ll be inspired by hygge — the Danish way of embracing coziness and contentment — and by our HomeBody philosophy of slow decorating, meaningful rhythms, and creating sanctuary in every season.
This is the season for coziness, comfort, and contentment — what the Danes call hygge (pronounced hoo-gah). Hygge isn’t really about decorating or entertaining; it’s a feeling — that quiet sense of peace you get from simple pleasures: a warm mug in your hands, candlelight on a dark evening, or time spent in good company.
There’s another word I love — hyggelig (pronounced hoo-gah-lee).
It’s how the Danes and Norwegians describe something that feels cozy or pleasant. A hyggelig moment might be curling up under a blanket, reading by the fire, or gathering around the table with people you love.
✨That’s the feeling we’re after this winter — and through the holiday season — a home that feels hyggelig, comfortable, and inviting in every way.✨

In HomeBody Gathering Place we’re learning how to bring warmth and intention into your home from now through winter.
Hygge for HomeBodies offers a simple plan to prepare for this season, cozy inspiration galleries to enjoy all winter, and printables and resources to help you create your winter sanctuary.
HomeBodies will feel happier and cozier all winter — and more prepared to be present through the holidays.
